Learn how to set the order in which clips should appear in a video.

Before you begin

To rearrange the order of clips, select it and move it to a new place on the timeline.

  1. Select the clip on the timeline.
  2. Press Ctrl + Alt (Windows) or Cmd + Opt (macOS) and drag and drop it to a new location.
  3. When you perform a rearrange edit, the Rearrange  icon appears.
  4. Release the clip to insert it into the new location.

Result

The clip's position in the timeline will change. If you move a clip to a different point on the timeline, it will play at that new location when you play the video.

Rearranging a clip might cause it to overlap with other clips or create gaps between clips. Premiere Pro allows clips to overlap, and the clip on the higher track will be visible. Gaps can occur if there's empty space between clips after rearranging.

Note:

Only clips in the destination track are shifted; other tracks are unaffected.
