Error code 5: Unable to move GC files

Error code 5: Unable to move GC files

Error code 5 indicates that gccustomhook failed to move the AGSService binary from the AdobeGenuineClient folder (the installer location) to the AdobeGCClient folder.

The location of AdobeGenuineClient folder is as follows:

  • Windows: C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe Desktop Common\AdobeGenuineClient
  • macOS: /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Desktop Common/AdobeGenuineClient

Solution

The possible reasons for the failure are that the Adobe Genuine binaries were not present in the installer folder, or the permissions of the AdobeGCClient folder were not correct.

  1. Delete the AdobeGCClient folder along with all its contents.

  2. Select Check for Updates from the Creative Cloud desktop app Help menu. The Creative Cloud desktop app automatically rectifies the installer package (if necessary) and then prompts the consent dialog again.

  3. Accept or deny the consent on the Adobe Genuine Service consent dialogue that appears based on your requirements.
