Share PDF links from Acrobat extension

Last updated on Jun 19, 2026

Learn how to share PDF links using Adobe Acrobat extension for quick access and review across devices.

Share your PDFs by generating a link others can use to access the file. You can also set specific access permissions to define who can view or comment on your documents.

Note

The shared document opens on any device and is stored securely in Adobe cloud storage.

Share PDF links

Open a PDF and select Share in the global bar.

In the dialog box, select Link settings and then choose the link access and permissions:

Who can access:

  • Anyone with the link: The file is accessible to anyone who has the link. Use this for external collaborators, clients, or anyone outside your organization.
  • Anyone in <your-organization> with the link: Only employees in your company can access the PDF. Use this for internal drafts, policies, or any document that shouldn't leave your organization. For enterprise users, this option is selected by default.

What they can do:

  • Can comment: Recipients can view and add comments to the document. Use this when you want comments or approvals from others.
  • Can view: Recipients can only view the document. Use this for finalized documents or sensitive files.

Share PDFs from your preferred app or copy a link directly from Acrobat’s Share panel.

Select Apply to confirm link settings.

Choose how to share the PDF:

  • Share via third-party apps: Select any third-party app, such as Outlook, Gmail, Teams, or WhatsApp, then add your recipient and send directly from that app.
  • Share via link: Select Get a link and share the copied link with recipients.

Recipients get a link that opens the PDF directly in their browser. They don't need to install Acrobat or create an Adobe account. The document loads as you shared it, with commenting tools available if you granted that permission. They cannot download, edit, or print the file unless you've enabled those options separately.
