Preview the PDF in the chat and select the thumbnail to open it in full‑screen view.
If the PDF is password-protected, you'll be asked to enter the password first.
Add markups to your PDF directly in the chat.
With the PDF open in full-screen view, select Edit PDF from the top menu. This gives you markup tools you can use right in the chat:
Draw: Sketch freehand notes or marks anywhere on the page.
Highlight: Call out important text.
Underline: Emphasize key lines or details.
Strikethrough: Mark text for removal or flag it as outdated.
Select Done to save your markups on the PDF, then send it back to the chat.
Markup tools are available to everyone at no cost and don't require signing in to an Adobe account or an Acrobat subscription.
To access more advanced Acrobat tools, select Edit PDF > Edit in Acrobat from the main menu.
Select Continue to Acrobat, and sign in to your Adobe account, if prompted.
For WhatsApp Web users in Chrome, if the Adobe Acrobat extension is installed, PDFs open directly in the extension.
Select the text you want to modify, then use the Format text and Add content options in the Edit pane to:
- Format text: Change the font, size, style, color, or spacing.
- Add content: Insert new text or images.
- Manage layout: Adjust objects or reposition sections.
Editing PDFs requires a paid Acrobat plan and sign-in. You can only view PDFs, use free in-chat markup tools, and access other free Acrobat features without a subscription.

- Select a page thumbnail to manage it.
- Drag thumbnails to reorder pages.
- Use Insert pages to add pages from another file.
- Use Extract pages to save selected pages as a new PDF.
- Use Split into multiple files to break the PDF apart.
