Panels in Firefly video editor

Learn about panels in Firefly video editor and how they help you organize, edit, and fine-tune your project with ease.

When working with the Firefly video editor, you can access multiple panels to work with media files, text components, and media properties. Each of these panels is designed to help you organize, edit, and fine-tune your project.

In the Firefly video editor, you can work with the following panels:

Viewer

The Viewer is located at the center of the editor and displays the content of your timeline as you edit. It provides a real-time preview of your video, allowing you to see how your clips, edits, and effects come together. Beyond previewing, the Viewer also lets you interact directly with your visuals to make precise adjustments, such as editing text overlays. Using this panel, you can:

  • Zoom in or out for detailed or full-frame views
  • Pan across the frame using the hand tool located at the top-left corner of the timeline
  • Adjust specific areas of a clip for more precise visual edits

You can also use the view box on the bottom right of the viewer to pan through or adjust the crop for the generated video.

Timeline panel

The Timeline panel is the main workspace in the Firefly video editor where you arrange and edit your media. It displays all added clips, such as videos, images, audio, and text- along a time-based sequence, showing how your project will play from start to finish. Any effects, transitions, or adjustments applied to clips are also visible here. Using this panel, you can:

  • Cut and trim clips to adjust timing
  • Rearrange media to change the playback order
  • Select clips to view and modify their properties

Your media panel

The Your media panel can be enabled by using the Your media icon in the left sidebar of the editor. This panel lists all the media files you’ve added and the timeline in your video editor. Using this panel, you can:

  • Upload new media files
  • Delete media files
  • Create a new timeline
The Your media panel is open and it lists all the videos added as well as the timeline. There are options to search the timeline as well as upload new media files.
Use the Your media panel to view all the media files added to the timeline.

Generation history panel

The Generation history panel can be enabled by using the Generation history   icon in the left sidebar of the editor. This panel allows you to:

  • Browse through the generated media, including the ones you have added as favorites
  • Generate new videos directly within the editor, or navigate to the image and sound effect generation pages.
  • Drag and drop generated media from the panel to your timeline.
The Generation history panel shows all previously generated content and displays the option to filter it by media type.

Text panel

The Text panel can be enabled by using the Text   icon in the left sidebar of the editor. This panel allows you to adjust text properties in the timeline.

Properties panel

In the timeline, each layer can be a video, image, or text. When you select a layer, the Properties panel automatically activates based on the layer type. It provides options to adjust properties such as size, position, and other edit settings, allowing you to customize the selected layer based on your editing needs.

Generation settings panel

The Generation settings panel allows you to use the Firefly Video model to generate videos using multiple customizable controls, such as resolution, aspect ratio, keyframe images, style presets, and camera angle.

Text-based editing panel

The Text-based editing panel lets you work directly with the transcript of the video clip selected in the timeline. You can use this panel to navigate the timeline through the transcript and edit the text to build and refine the video.

To activate this panel, select a video clip that contains speech, then select the Text-based editing  icon in the right panel. Firefly video editor will automatically transcribe the audio, and the transcript will appear in this panel, allowing you to edit the video using the text.

Transitions panel

Transitions help create smooth, professional-looking videos by blending scenes together or adding dramatic pauses. Firefly video editor (beta) offers easy-to-use transitions that you can apply directly to clips in your timeline.

Looks panel

Apply professional color grading brings visual consistency and impact to your generated videos by using the Looks panel. This panel allows you to use color adjustment tools and apply cinematic styles or fine-tune individual color properties for quick results.
