Getting started

The Generative Media Tool lets you generate videos and sound effects directly in your Premiere timeline. Generated media is added as editable clips so you can continue editing without leaving your project.

The generative task bar is the floating interface that appears when you use the Generative Media Tool. It provides options for entering prompts, choosing AI models, adding reference frames, and generating media.

The Generative Media Tool is the tool you use to select where media should be generated in your timeline. The generative task bar is the interface that appears after you make your selection and lets you configure the generation.

Most plugins and external tools require a manual export-import loop and don’t understand your sequence. The Generative Media Tool generates from inside your timeline – Premiere sets model options to match your sequence automatically to the model’s nearest available option, you can sample reference frames from your own footage, and results arrive as editable clips on the timeline. And you can choose between Firefly and leading partner models in one place and with one subscription, without bouncing between apps and platforms.

Generating media

Video generation supports Adobe Firefly and supported partner AI models. Available models may vary depending on your region and subscription plan.

Yes. Generated clips can be regenerated by reopening the generative task bar from the AI badge on the clip.

Generated media is saved in a generation folder associated with your project and organized in the Generation history bin.

Premiere is saving prompt and reference frames so you can go back anytime. Just click the new AI badge on the generated clip to bring the generative task bar back up, pre-loaded with the original generation data.

Yes, when generating sound effects, you can optionally record your voice to add timing and intensity, so the result syncs to your clips.

No. Supported partner models can be accessed using your Adobe subscription and available generative credits.

Privacy and security

No. Your prompts, media, and reference frames are used only to generate your requested content and aren't used to train Adobe or partner AI models. Learn more about our generative AI commitments.

Adobe Firefly models are designed to be commercially safe and are trained on licensed and public domain content. Your media is never used to train Adobe or partner models, and your prompts and inputs are only used to generate your own content.

We provide the choice to use partner models within our applications. Learn more about Partner models in Adobe Products. You decide which models to use and are responsible for determining whether a partner model is appropriate for your project.

Your content is never used to train partner generative AI models or Adobe models. We only offer partner models if the developer or hosting platform contractually agrees to this. Your prompts and inputs are only used to generate your content.

Adobe has integrated Content Credentials to recognize the source of media, respect generative AI usage and training preferences, and promote transparency for how content was created. Configure your preferences once at the Adobe Content Authenticity site, after which Premiere applies your settings automatically during export.

Yes. Generative media features require an internet connection because generation is processed in the cloud.

Generative AI features in Premiere are processed in the cloud. The cloud models use the text prompt you enter and any reference images or videos you upload to guide the generation. This is the minimum amount of data required to generate an output. Your prompts, media, and reference frames are used only to generate your requested content and aren't used to train Adobe or partner AI models.

Models and credits

For video, choose between Adobe Firefly and leading partner models like Google Veo, Kling and Luma. Sound effects are powered by Adobe’s own commercially safe model.

Some models are currently available only to individual users. Support for business plans isn't yet available for some models, as additional reviews are currently being conducted to responsibly enable third-party models for business use. We will continue to evaluate broader availability as those reviews are completed.

When generating in Premiere, you can use your generative credits for any Adobe or partner model and don’t need a separate account for each one. Any contracts or subscriptions you may have with a partner model provider do not apply to use within Adobe apps.

We aim to offer the best models available, as measured by independent third-party benchmarks and our own evaluations informed by community feedback.

Generating media uses generative credits, and usage varies across models and options. The generative task bar always shows how many credits the current combination will use, and you can check your balance from your profile. Learn more about generative credits in the generative credits FAQ.

For a limited time period, users receive complimentary daily usage to explore and experiment with AI Assistant experiences. Once the complimentary daily limit is reached, users can continue the next day when it resets automatically.
