Generate media with the Generative Media Tool (beta)

Last updated on Jul 9, 2026

Learn how to generate video and sound effects directly in your Adobe Premiere (beta) timeline using the Generative Media Tool.

Use the Generative Media Tool to create AI-generated video or sound effects without leaving your sequence.

Select the Generative Media Tool icon from the Tools panel.

Drag across your timeline to select the range where you want to generate media.

Enter a text prompt describing the media you want to create.

The Generative Media Tool opens the generative task bar after a range is selected in the Premiere timeline.
Select a range in the timeline to open the generative task bar and configure media generation.

Select an AI model from the Model menu.

(Optional) Adjust the generation settings, such as resolution, aspect ratio, frame rate, seed, and duration, depending on the selected model. Select Advanced settings icon to configure additional options for the selected model. The available settings vary depending on the AI model you choose.

(Optional) Add one or more reference frames to guide video generation.

For video generation, add reference frames from your sequence to guide the appearance and continuity of the generated result. You can use the First frame button or add additional reference frames to provide more visual context.

  • To generate a video that's based on a start frame, use the First frame button.
  • To generate transitions, use the First frame and Last frame options.
  • To generate without a specific start frame but with visual and style references from your projects, add one or multiple reference frames.

(Optional) For supported AI models, enable Audio icon to create audio together with the generated video. When enabled, Premiere (beta) adds a generated audio clip to an audio track in your sequence. Availability depends on the selected AI model.

Review the estimated generative credit usage.

Select Generate and review the generated media in your timeline. If needed, update the prompt, settings, or reference frames and generate again.

Note

To customize the generative task bar, select More options icon. From here, you can Pin bar position, Reset bar position, or Reset to defaults.
