Supported file formats

Substance 3D Viewer (Beta) is a desktop app that enables fast viewing and editing of 3D files. You can import dozens of file formats.

Viewer natively stores data as USD (Universal Scene Description) data, but saves as a modified format called ASD (Adobe Scene Description). This enables the use of full USD but also saves some Adobe-specific data.

* DWF and DWFX are supported on Windows and Linux OS.

Note:

The Substance 3D Viewer for Photoshop plugin allows directly adding 3D files into the Photoshop (beta) app as a smart object. A subset of formats are supported directly in the Photoshop (beta) app. For other formats, you can open them in Viewer desktop, save as ASD, then add the ASD file to the Photoshop (beta) app.

The following formats are supported directly in the Photoshop (beta) app:

  • ASD, GLB, USD, USDZ, USDA, USDC, GLTF, FBX, OBJ, PLY, STL
